Terms of Service

Strangerhood pairs adults for 1:1 conversation with strangers. These terms say what we expect of you, what you can expect of us, and what happens when someone breaks the rules.
Who can use it
- 18 or over. No exceptions. You must declare your age before you can be matched, and in some regions you must complete age verification with our certified provider. Declaring an age under 18 is refused and recorded.
- One account per person. Accounts are pseudonymous to other users but identified to us, so rules can actually be enforced.
- Voice notes expire within 24 hours and are only available to signed-in users. Like photos, expiry means we delete them — it does not mean a recipient cannot record their screen.
- In some regions you can chat as a guest without an account: text only, nothing is saved, no friends, and you must confirm you are 18 or over before you start. Guests can be banned by device. Other users see a "guest" label when matched with one.
What is not allowed
Anything illegal, and specifically: any sexual content involving minors; harassment, threats or hate; sharing another person's private information; spam, scams or off-platform solicitation; impersonation; and attempts to evade a ban.
Child sexual abuse material is reported, not just removed. Where we detect it we block delivery, preserve the material for law enforcement, ban the account and device, and report it. This is not discretionary.
How we enforce this
- Every message passes automated moderation before it is delivered. A blocked message never reaches the other person.
- Anyone can report a conversation in one tap. Reports carry the chat context and feed automatic consequences.
- Accumulated reports move an account into a restricted tier before a ban; bans apply to the account and the device.
- You can appeal any enforcement decision at /appeal. Appeals are read by a person, and an overturned ban is lifted immediately.
What we promise
- We apply these rules consistently, and we keep records of the decisions we make.
- Other users never see your email address or real name.
- Conversations you did not both take part in are not stored. See our Privacy Policy.
What we do not promise
This is a free service provided as-is. We cannot guarantee that someone will be available to chat, that the service will be uninterrupted, or that moderation catches everything — automated systems miss things, which is why reporting matters. We may change or withdraw features, and we may suspend the service if we believe that is the safest response to a live problem.
Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time in Settings. Some records are retained afterwards where we have a legal or safety reason — bans and report history in particular, because deleting an account would otherwise erase a ban.
